Pens Take Game One Over Binghamton 3-2 In OT

Game one of round one Calder Cup Playoff’s get off the grounf tonight as the WBS Penguins head to Binghamton to take on the Senators.

Senators take a one to nothing lead just over six minutes into tonight’s contest in the power play the WBS Penguins would get a chance on the power play shortly after the Binghamton goal as the Senators sit for a rough. WBS would do nothing with the power play they had  and would continue to trail the Senators 1-0.

At the end of one it was WBS 0 Binghamton 1 the Senators and Penguins were even with shots on net for the first period at 10 each. WBS went 0 for 2 on the power play during the first.

Second period got under way both squads looking to get something going. Chuck Kobasew got into it with one of the Senators defense men drawing a slashing call and putting the Senators on the power play, the WBS penalty kill does a great job of killing it off. Tom Kostopoulos gets a nice slap shot on net but Hammond saw it coming keeping his team on top.

WBS would get a power play as Alex Grant would head to the sin bin for interference, the Penguins did nothing with this power play making it now 0 for 3  on the power play just past the halfway mark of the game. Harry Zolnierczyk gets a nice back hand pass from Brian Dumoulin takes it down the ice and makes it a one to one game. Jean-Gabriel Pageau would score for the Senators as Mannino gets screened by his own D-Man giving the Binghamton Senators a one goal lead once again.

With 3:46 left in the second period WBS would give the Senators a glorious chance to go up by a pair as the   but Chuck Kobasew pokes one free gets it to Andrew Ebbett who takes it in on Hammond and scores short handed making it all even at 2  . The at 18:29 Alex grant heads to the sin bin again for Binghamton putting WBS on the power play, just as the PP gets started Tom Kostopoulos gets hit with a  high stick putting the Pens on a 5 on 3

WBS starts the third still on the 5 on 3 but that dissolves quickly to a 5 on 4  then back to full strength. A turnover by the Senators created by Chuck Kobasew creates a shot on Hammond, Carter Rowney collects the rebound and pokes it home but it is immediately waived off for incidental contact with the goaltender.

WBS gets their 6th power play of the night created by Uher getting a nice pass from Barry Goers making the Senators react by slashing Uher. WBS not having any luck this far in the contest on the power play and this time is no different now 0 for 6. Chuck Kobasew gets called for a slash with just five minutes left in regulation giving the Senators the chance they were looking for, but WBS keeps it an even game.

That is how regulation would end tonight fans even at two forcing game one round one of the 2014 Calder Cup playoff’s for the WBS Penguins into overtime.

Penguins seem to get things going early in the but eh Senators turn it around and put it in net but it is immediately waived off this being the third goal this game waived off officials say it was kicked in after review the decision is upheld and play continues.

Aton Zlobin would tally the over time goal at 8:40 for the WBS Penguins giving the Pengujns the OT win game one round one of the 2014 Calder Cup Playoffs with a score of 3-2. Game two will be tomorrow night in Binghamton. Here are the highlights from tonight’s game.
