The Binghamton Senators squared off against your WBS Penguins tonight at the Mohegan Sun Arena with the Penguins looking to get some much needed points out of the night. The Senators on the other hand were looking to distance themselves from the rest of the division by that I mean pulling further ahead in points.
The Binghamton Senators pulled out in front early tonight scoring just 2:49 in putting a damper on the WBS home crowd, but it wasn’t for long as WBS mounted an offensive. Harry Zolnierczyk lit the lamp for the Penguins igniting a Penguin barrage.
WBS would light the lamp one more time during the first period Nick Drezenovic would get the goal to put his team up 2-1 on the Senators with just 8:14 left in the period. WBS would get a power play nearing the end of the first as the Senators Hoffman sat for an unsportsmanlike penalty but could not convert leaving the ice for the first break leading the Sens 2-1.
Second period the WBS Penguins come out looking for more but get hampered most of the way by Binghamton. Tom Kostopoulos and Binghamton’s Wideman get matching minors for slashing making for some 4×4 hockey then Bingo’s Hoffman draws a double minor putting WBS on the power play.
The Pens make good in it as Brendan Mikkleson scores making it 3-1 WBS. Binghamton comes back with a goal of their own to narrow the WBS Penguins lead to just one goal before leaving the ice for the second intermission SOG at the end of two were WBS 24 BNG 22.
Jeff Deslauriers made some great saves keeping the Pens in this game as things got started in the third period, Spencer Machacek would take a tripping penalty just over four minutes in and put the Pens down a man giving the ever dangerous Senators a chance to even things up and that they do. Binghamtons Mark Stone would get the even up goal on the power play putting the pressure on WBS to get another tally.
Despite the effort the Penguins can’t seem to find an opening that combined with two late period penalties one to Despres and one to Machacek both for high sticking Machacek’s would carry in to the OT costing the Penguins the game as the Senators would strike thirty seconds in on a 4 x 3 situation beating the WBS Penguins 4-3 in OT. Below are highlight’s of tonight’s game.
