The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Montreal Canadiens, are thrilled to announce that goaltender Mike Condon has been named CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Nov. 25-Dec.1.
Condon, 23, earns the honor for the first time in his career, after posting a 2-0-1 record, a 0.97 goals against average, and a .971 save percentage, as the Nailers extended their point streak to ten consecutive games. Mike began the week by recording his first shutout as a Nailer and second of his professional career, blocking all 38 shots he faced in a 3-0 victory at Cincinnati. On Friday night, the Holliston, MA turned in another stellar effort, making 34 saves on 35 shots in a 3-1 win at Elmira. Finally, on Sunday, Condon helped his team earn one point against Cincinnati at home, finishing with 28 saves on 30 shots. Over the course of the week, Condon and teammate Mathieu Corbeil combined to stop 139 of the 142 shots sent their way.
Mike is currently in the midst of his first full season of professional hockey, after debuting at the tail end of last season with the ECHL’s Ontario Reign and AHL’s Houston Aeros. Since turning pro after graduating from Princeton University, the 6-foot-3 backstop has gone 14-4-2 in 22 regular season appearances.
Mike Condon and the Wheeling Nailers will be home for two games this coming week, as they take on the Reading Royals on Friday and the Cincinnati Cyclones on Saturday. Both games begin at 7:00.
