Penguins Suffer First Loss Of 2013 – 2014 Season

The WBS Penguins took a little trip to Binghamton today to take on the Senators, a nice cool day for a trip WBS looking to better it’s winning trying for a perfect 7-0 record but the Senators having a different outlook.

Things get going in the first period that is for the Senators as they would score twice on WBS both times on the power play really taking some wind out of the Penguins sails, but not dispatching the Pens totally. WBS would keep fighting looking for that first goal to get things going just couldn’t seem to get things lined up.

Tommy Kuhnhackl would score early in the second as the Penguins are on the power play making it 2-1 cutting the Binghamton lead in half.

Just past the midway point on the second period Michael Sdao went after Bobby Farnham after he put a big hit on one of the Senators checking Farnham up high drawing a cross checking major penalty and a game misconduct putting the Penguins on the man advantage for 5 minutes. Needless to say this invoked a RYS chant by the Binghamton crowd.

Binghamton would score late in the second making it a two nothing game, WBS would score but have the goal waved off keeping it 3-1. That’s how it would end two periods in the books Senators leading 3-1.

Lawson went behind the net to play a puck waiting for it to come to the trapezoid but Zolnierczyk would pick it up and before Lawson could get back in the net Zolnierczyk would score for WBS making it 3-2. Nick  Drazenovic with a nice interception then getting the puck to Adam Payerl who would get off a nice shot just beating Lawson making it three all with just under 15 minutes left to play in regulation.

WBS gets a great chance just after the midway point of the third as Hamilton sits for a trip then as the WBS power play starts Wideman shoots the puck over the glass giving the Pens a 5 on 3 for a bit then a 5 on 4 but the Senators kill it all off.

Late in the third Sill gets called for interference and would sit for tow hoping he doesn’t cost his team the game but the boys and JDD come up big in the kill keeping it even at three, and that’;s how it ends as both squads look toward overtime.

Boys play hard through OT getting a few good chances on net but it wouldn’t be in the cards for the boys in OT so off to the shootout first shootout of the 2013-14 season for the Pens.

DaCosta hits the mark right off the hop in the shoot out putting the Senators up one to nothing in this round Nobody scoring for the Pens in the first 3 rounds then  Puempel scores on JDD in the fourth round giving the Penguins a do or die challenge but WBS comes up short dropping to the Senators 4-3.

Binghamton gives WBS it’s first loss of the season, the Penguins are coming home to take on the Norfolk Admirals tomorrow night at the Mohegan Sun Arena.
