Penguins Crunch Syracuse Come Out On Top

The WBS Penguins took a trip today up to Syracuse to take on the Crunch at the Onondaga County War Memorial Arena.

The WBS Penguins would be the first ones on the board late in the first period as the Penguins were on one of nine power play given to them during tonight’s game scoring for the Penguins would be none other than Tom Kostopoulos his first of two on the night as well. That’s where the score would sit at the end of the first period Syracuse looking to come out big for the second period.

The opening few minutes of the second period you would have sworn you were at a WBS Penguins game and they were getting nailed one two three with penalties as Kuhnhackl got called for a trip then Mormina for a trip and Samuelsson for interference, but then you would remember Joey Mormina is no longer a Penguin he is with the Crunch.

The Pens held on to the one goal lead until just over halfway through the second when Syracuse tied it up Namestnikov put it past Deslauriers making it one all. The Penguins would get a chance to make things happen on the power play deep in the second but Syracuse would come up big with a short handed goal taking a two to one lead. That would be all for the second period heading off the ice the WBS Penguins looking for a come back.

Things get chippy early in the third as Depres and Sergeev do a waltz and sit for fighting just :22 in. Tom Kostopoulos would score his second of the game again on the power play making it two all and putting him on HTA. Power plays are something the Penguins had plenty of tonight giving them some great chances. Nick Drazenovic would score on a power play making it now three to two Pens.

Syracuse would get a chance on the power play to make things even at three but Jayson Megna would see to it that they would regret it as he scored a nice short handed goal making it now 4-2 Penguins. Taormina would score for the Crunch giving the Syracuse crowd a glimmer of hope as their team pulled within one goal again but the Penguins would slam the door with a goal by Zolnierczyk and nail it shut with an empty net goal by Uher ending tonight’s contest with a score of 6 to 3 WBS.
