WBS got the first power play of today’s game as Bobby Farnham got taken out McIver would go off for slashing. Bridgeport would score just over four minutes in taking an early 1-0 lead. WBS would give Bridgeport their first power play as Holzapfel would sit for unsportsmanlike but the WBS Penalty Kill would keep the Sound Tigers out.
Brian gibbons robbed of a penalty shot on a breakaway as he was hooked from behind but got awarded the power play but would not convert. WBS had some good chances this period but just couldn’t seem to find an opening.
Second period action Joe Morrow over skates a puck just about costs WBS a goal but Thiessen keeps them honest later Morrow takes a snapshot that hits Smith in the ankle sending him to the ice. Morrow would make up for all this later with a nice shot on goal that gets tipped by Tom Kostopoulos making it one all.
Minella and Riley did their rendition of dancing with the stars score cards say 9-9-9 an even bout both would sit for five in the sin bin.
It would look as if this one was heading for OT both teams tied at one, but nearing the end of regulation, the Sound Tigers would throw everything but the kitchen sink at WBS , Brad Thiessen made some crucial saves keeping the score one each and sending it to OT.
Needless to say since it went to the shootout there was no score in OT but I said it anyway.
Chad Kolarik opened the scoring for WBS being the first shooter, but going first means they get tje last chance. Thiessen got fooled by Jack Combs as he slid in a backhand shot in the third frame to tie things up for Bridgeport. Riley Holzapfel came through for the Pens in the fourth round, then Thiessen held off Brock Nelson’s to seal the deal.
Thiessen made 34 saves through overtime to win his third straight start and raise his record to 12-9-1 on the season.
