The Penguins vacated northeastern PA today , no not because of the snow here and north of us but instead to take on the Norfolk Admirals on a rainy night in Virginia.
Tonight’s game just got going just over two minutes in and Samuelsson heads to the bin not good way to kick things off but that’s that. The WBS Penalty Kill does a great job of killing it off. Jay Rosehill would score for the Admirals taking advantage of Joe Morrow and Philip Samuelsson getting their wires crossed making it one nothing Norfolk.
The rest of the period saw a bunch of chances for the Pens and the Admirals with Jeff Deslauriers and Brad Theissen doing a great job of keeping the puck out of their respective nets.
Grant hits sexton and gets called for interference giving Norfolk a power play early in the second period. Pens kill it then shortly after WBS gets a power play as Norfolk gets called for too many men on the ice.
The Admirals kill the WBS power play keeping it one nothing Norfolk but hand WBS a power play not long after as Nate Guenin would sit for slashing but with :30 left in the power play WBS’s take a stupid penalty away from the play making it a 4 on4 then a 1:30 power play for Norfolk. Pens kill it and get a power play Sent their way as Wagner sits for a slash giving WBS another chance to even it up but no good.
WBS would get a funny bounce on a shot from Warren Peters that found it’s way behind Jeff Deslauriers, it would beunassisted making it even at one in Norfolk. Just as things were looking up for the Pens Jayson Megna gets called for a charge nearing the end of the second giving Norfolk a :40+ carry over power play to start the third
Starting the third with Norfolk on the power play Sill turns it over and Norfolk misses a wide open net what a break, WBS Penalty Kill holds keeping the Pens in the game for now.
Pens turn the puck over again this time at the blue line and just couldn’t recover just over three minutes into the third , Josh Brittain fakes to the glove side on Theissen but goes stick side scoring number two for Norfolk . Then things go from bad to worse a routine clear by WBS bounces off the blade of Riley Holzapfel to Norfolk and Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond puts it in the net making it 3-1 Norfolk. Talk about going from the pot to the fire the Penguins go down by three, just after Leblond’s goal he gets the puck again after a hard hit and sends it to Rosehill who scores number 4 for Norfolk.
Farnham and Rosehill dance, Macintyre invites Leblond out for a stroll but he wants nothing to do with it but there is always tomorrow night. WBS scrambles with five minutes left in regulation looking to possibly even things up possible yes probable not really the way the boys were playing tonight just a bit sloppy.
Late in the game showing some frustration Tom Kostopoulos shoots Deslauriers’s stick into the corner and gets sent to the box but the PK CDs through again not that it would matter at this point the Penguins fall to Norfolk 4-1.
Penguins go 0/5 on the power play tonight not a good thing but the PK goes 5/5 so I guess you can call that a draw? These two teams will meet again tomorrow night at the Scope I am sure it is going to be good game.
