Barton Loaned to Wilkes-Barre / Scranton

The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Montreal Canadiens, have announced a transaction, taking effect immediately. The AHL’s Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have signed forward Chris Barton to a professional tryout.

Barton, 25, will be enjoying his second stint in the American Hockey League this season, after playing in two games with the Penguins on January 12th and 15th against Adirondack and Norfolk. This will be Chris’ fifth career stint in the AHL, after going to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton twice last season, while starting his career with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at the conclusion of the 2010-11 campaign.

Thus far this season, the Calgary, AB native has appeared in 22 games with the Nailers, acquiring points in 15 of those contests, giving him 11 goals, 10 assists, and 21 points. Overall, Barton has made his way into the Wheeling lineup 91 times over the course of the last two seasons, racking up 40 goals, 41 assists, and 81 points, while also registering a +13 rating.

The Nailers will return to the ice on Friday, when they will play host to the Reading Royals at 7:00.
