The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Montreal Canadiens, are excited to announce that one of their players has received a league honor. Goaltender Peter Delmas was named the Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for the week of December 17th-23rd.
Delmas, 22, earns Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week honors for the second time in his career, after earning the notion for the week of January 24th-30th, 3011. Peter has made his mark as one of the elite goaltenders in the ECHL, since he arrived in Wheeling during the 2010-11 campaign, posting a career record of 37-20-5 during the regular season, as well as an 8-5-1 postseason mark. To go along with that success, Peter has also posted a 2.29 goals against average, a .917 save percentage, and six shutouts as a member of the Nailers.
Due to injury, Peter got off to a bit of a slow start this season, appearing in only three games with the AHL’s Hamilton Bulldogs, before being assigned to Wheeling on December 12th. After defeating Evansville 7-5 on December 16th, Delmas turned it on the following week, allowing one goal in each of three victories over Greenville (twice) and Elmira, stopping 56 of the 59 shots he faced. On the season, the Bedford, NS native is 4-0-0, with a 2.00 goals against average, and a .907 save percentage.
Peter Delmas becomes the sixth Nailer to earn ECHL Goaltender of the Week honors multiple times, joining Curtis Darling, Andy Franck, Joel Laing, Tyler MacKay, and Dany Sabourin.
