On Friday night in Wheeling, the Nailers played host to the Elmira Jackals in the first of back-to-back weekend contests. Wheeling got off to a fast start, scoring twice in the second, before finishing their victory with two more goals in the third, defeating the Jackals, 5-1. Chris Barton notched two goals, while four other players tacked on multiple point evenings.

Wheeling started off the scoring at 9:38 of the first, when Chris Barton scored the first of his two goals, finishing off a centering pass from Paul Crowder. Zach Hansen also picked up an assist, as the Nailers connected on the power play for the ninth consecutive game. Barton scored again 1:26 later, when Andrew Hotham set up yet another goal off of a one-timer.

The Jackals scored their first goal at the 6:35 mark of the second, with a wrist shot from high in the slot by Artem Demkov, with assists going to former Nailer Kyle Bushee, as well as Matt Campanale. Philippe Lefebvre answered for Wheeling, with a goal of his own, as he put back Peter Merth’s rocket off of the end boards.
A little more than four minutes into the third, Andrew Hotham took a shot from the blueline, and Daultan Leveille redirected it in, to add to the Nailers lead, at 4-1. 21 seconds later, Paul Crowder notched the Nailers’ fifth goal of the night, blasting Scott Zurevinski’s pass from the right corner, up and over Maxime Clermont’s glove.
