It was announced today that the Pittsburgh Penguins have assigned forwards Dominik Uher and Keven Veilleux to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton from the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL).
Currently in his rookie season with the Penguins, Uher has posted two assists and 15 penalty minutes in 12 games. Last night, the 20-year old skated in his third contest for Wheeling and recorded his first ECHL point with an assist versus Elmira.
A fifth-round draft pick (144th overall) of Pittsburgh in 2011, Uher played three seasons with the Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League. The Czech Republic-native totaled 144 points (58g-86a) in 181 games for the Chiefs.
Veilleux gathered the game-winning marker in the Nailers’ 4-2 decision over the Elmira Jackals. He has registered two goals and an assist for Wheeling over four games. Veilleux, 23, has made for appearances this season with the Penguins, recording seven penalty minutes
Veilleux, a second-round draft pick (51st overall) of Pittsburgh in 2007, totaled 12 goals, 24 assists and 122 penalty minutes over 66 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in 2010-11.
The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins take on the St. John’s Ice Caps tonight at 7:05 PM at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza. Tonight’s match-up will feature the first night of the Penguins’ 14th Annual Teddy Bear Toss to benefit Tobyhanna Army Depot and their “Operation Santa” program.
The first 5,000 fans in attendance will also receive a Penguins Holiday Nutcracker.
