Pens on the board early as Simon Despres puts it home making it one nothing penguins who seem to have the upper edge at this point. Then Peters tips in a shot from Dylan Reese making it two nothing.
Tangradi draws a penalty giving the WBS Penguins a power play almost half way through the first period. Power play expires no conversion with 6:21 left in the first the IceCaps still not credited with a shot on goal, at 5:39 they got one
Bobby Farnham and Dean Arsene do a dance after Arsene cross checks Farnham and the pens get a power play, then Tangradi gets called for a trip making it a 4 on 4. IceCaps score on the 4 on 4 making it 2-1 WBS.
WBS goes on the power play after Bennett gets boarded by Meech but no conversion again. 8:58 left in the second WBS Penguins now out shooting the IceCaps 19-6. Brian Strait takes a holding penalty putting WBS on a Penalty Kill and kill it they do.
The IceCaps score on just their tenth shot making it two all, then just after the face off St. John’s gets called for high sticking creating a WBS Power Play but it didn’t look that way boys having a hard time setting up again.
WBS goes on the PK for too many men just as the PK winds down Zach Sill, (yes you read that right Zach Sillwas back in the line up tonight and great to see him on the ice), gets slashed on a breakaway creating a WBS Power Play this time they do convert, it would be Dylan Reese making it 3-2 Penguins.
Third period started out ok Farnham giving it to some of the players on the IceCaps bench then Holzapfel feeds Ferriero from behind the net and he scores making it 4-2 Pens.
Not a real barn burner of a third period WBS Penguins limiting the IceCaps shots on net but one of those shots found its way past Zatkoff making it 4-3 WBS with 6:04 to play in regulation.
Holzapfel gets called for a trip with just over 3 minutes left to play putting the Pens on the PK for all but 1:10. IceCaps pull Eddie Pasquale giving them 6 on 4 but just as the power play expires the WBS Penguins Riley Holzapfel scores the empty netter making it 5 to 3 Penguins putting the cap on the bottle for the night.
