Pens Melt IceCaps 5-3

Pens on the board early as  Simon Despres puts it home making it one nothing penguins who seem to have the upper edge at this point. Then  Peters tips in a shot from Dylan Reese making it two nothing.

Tangradi draws a penalty giving the WBS Penguins a power play almost half way through the first period.  Power play expires no conversion  with 6:21 left in the first the IceCaps still not credited with a shot on goal, at 5:39 they got one

Bobby Farnham and Dean Arsene do a dance after Arsene cross checks Farnham and the  pens get a power play, then  Tangradi gets called for a trip making it a 4 on 4. IceCaps score on the 4 on 4 making it 2-1 WBS.

WBS goes on the power play after  Bennett gets boarded by  Meech but no conversion again. 8:58 left in the second WBS Penguins now out shooting the IceCaps 19-6.  Brian  Strait takes a holding penalty putting WBS on a Penalty Kill and kill it they do.

The IceCaps score on just their tenth shot making it  two all, then just after the face off St. John’s gets called for high sticking creating a WBS Power Play but it didn’t look that way boys having a hard time setting up again.

WBS goes on the PK for too many men just as  the PK winds down  Zach Sill, (yes you read that right  Zach Sillwas back in the line up tonight and great to see him on the ice), gets slashed on a breakaway creating a WBS Power Play this time they do convert, it would be Dylan Reese making it 3-2 Penguins.

Third period started  out ok Farnham giving it to some of the players on the IceCaps  bench then   Holzapfel  feeds  Ferriero from behind the net and he scores making it 4-2 Pens.

Not a real barn burner of a third period WBS Penguins limiting the IceCaps shots on net but one of those shots found its way past Zatkoff making it 4-3 WBS with 6:04 to play in regulation.

Holzapfel gets called for a trip with just over  3 minutes left to play putting the Pens on the PK for all but 1:10. IceCaps pull  Eddie Pasquale giving them 6 on 4 but just as the power play expires the WBS Penguins Riley Holzapfel scores the empty netter making it 5 to 3 Penguins putting the cap on the bottle for the night.
