Wednesday, November 21: Penguins4, BEARS 0…

Jeff Zatkoff needed only 15 saves to register his thirdshutout of the season as Wilkes-Barre/Scranton blanked Hershey, 4-0, at GIANT Center.

Power play goals 61 seconds apart by Beau Bennett and Simon Despres in the first six minutes of the second period broke open a 0-0 game. Benn Ferriero gave the Penguins a three-goal cushion when he converted a shorthanded goalat 1:03 of the third. Warren Peters also scored for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

Saturday, November 24: PENGUINS 2, Marlies1…

A goaltending battle between the Penguins’ Jeff Zatkoff and Toronto’s Ben Scrivens resulted in a 2-1 win for the Penguins as they won their fourth in a row at home.

The scoreless tie carried until the 6:22 mark of the third when Will Acton put the Marlies ahead, 1-0. Simon Despres responded less than three minutes later before Riley Holzapfel’s power play goal with 2:59 left gave Wilkes-Barre/Scranton the lead for good.

Zatkoff made 31 saves, while the Penguins’ penalty kill went 5-for-5 for the second game in a row.

Sunday, November 25: Penguins5,DEVILS4(SO)…

For the second straight day, the Penguins rallied from a third-period deficit to earn a victory as they defeated the Albany Devils in the shootout, 5-4,at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ.

Tom Kuhnhackl’s second goal of the night knotted the game at four with 7:54 left in regulation. Kuhnhackl enjoyed a three-point night (2g-1a) as did Brian Gibbons (1g-2a). Line mate Jayson Megna added two assists and scored the only goal in the shootout, converting in round five to help WBS to the win.

Brad Thiessen stopped 28-of-32 through overtime and 5-of-5 in the shootout for the Penguins.

Friday, November 30, 7:05PM: PENGUINS vs. Crunch…102.3 the Mountain

The top team in the East Division, the Syracuse Crunch, comes to Mohegan Sun Arena for the third meeting with the Penguins this season. Syracuse (12-3-1-1) has been among the Eastern Conference leaders for much of the season and is 9-2-0-0 in the month of November. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Syracuse have split the previous two meetings with each team winning on the opponent’s ice.

Saturday, December 1, 7:05PM: PENGUINS vs. IceCaps…My Network TV; 102.3 the Mountain

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and St. John’s battle for the first time since the seven-game Eastern Conference Semifinal in the 2012 Calder Cup Playoffs. All three games at Mohegan Sun Arena went past regulation with Simon Depres scoring in double overtime of Game 5 to send the series back to Newfoundland. The Penguins are 2-2-0-0 all-time against the IceCaps.

ICE CHIPS…

-Tom Kuhnhackl scored the first two goals of his AHL career as part of a three-point night (2g-1a) on Sunday in a 5-4 shootout win over Albany at Boardwalk Hall.

-WBS has gone 9-2-0-0 in the month of November.

-Jacob Josefson’s shorthanded goal for the Devils on Sunday was just the third allowed by the Penguins in nine road games this season. WBS owns the best road penalty kill in the AHL with a conversionrate of 93.5% (43-for-46).

-Over his last eight starts, Jeff Zatkoff has allowed just eight goals, going 7-1-0 with three shutouts, a 0.99 goals against average and a .961 save percentage. He currently ranks second in the AHL in goals against average (1.61), fourth in save percentage (.938) and is tied for second in shutouts (3).

-Four different players are tied for the Penguins’ team lead with two game-winning goals: Riley Holzapfel, Beau Bennett, Eric Tangradi and Paul Thompson.

-WBS has won eight straight shootout games dating back to last season. Brad Thiessen is 2-0 in the shootout and has stopped all nine shooters he has faced.

PENS & PINS THIS SUNDAY!…

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins will be holding their third annual Pens & Pins Charity Bowling Tournament on Sunday, December 2 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at Chacko’s Family Bowling Center in Wilkes-Barre.All proceeds will go to support Allied Services Integrated Health Services.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins players and coaches will be chosen randomly to captain teams of fans ina two-game format. The registration fee is $50 per person or $200 for a team of five and includes two games of bowling, free shoe rental, pizza and soda and a commemorative 2012 “Pens & Pins” T-shirt.
