Brad Thiessen got the start for the WBS Penguins today as they faced the Albany Devils in the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City NJ.
Things started out good for our boys Thompson and Farnham get a great chance early in the first but couldn’t find the recipe, despite all the work it would be Albany that got on the baord first scoring at 9:32 of the first would be Mattias Tedenby for the Devils but the Penguins just coming off a good fought win the night before were not about to give up there.
Just over three minutes later it would be Gibbons and Kuhnhackl, teaming up to get the first two goals first it was Gibbons to Kuhnhackl, and then three minutes after that it was Kuhnhackl, to Gibbons putting the Penguins up by one in the later part of the first period. This being the first game back for Gibbons since he took that hard hit against the boards against the Portland Pirates, not saying that is why he was out just pointing out the obvious.
Albany would come back in the first making it two all with just over 3 minutes left in the period on the power play as Farnham sat for a rough and a fight with Sestito. Then as you thought that was the way the period was going to end Trevor Smith would get the third goal for WBS with one 10th of a second left first, yes that’s what I said 1/10 of a second talk about splitting hairs wow.
The Second period saw a lot of action with a lot of good chances but it would be Albany getting what they needed in this period as Adam Henrique talent down because of the lockout scores over the glove of Brad Thiessen making it three all.
Third saw more scoring action Albany would go up 4-3 on the Penguins just past the halfway point in the period scoring a shorty, but the Penguins still not ready to leave the card table called all in as not even 2 minutes later Tom Kuhnhackl pulls out an ace goes on HTA and evens it up at four all. Thats where it would stay heading in to OT and through OT heading in to the Shootout.
You guessed it the Pens would do it in the shootout Jayson Megna would be the hero today as he pulled a nice move on Kinkaid scoring the only shootout goal of the evening and pulling in the pot for the Penguins beating the Albany Devils 5-4
