WBS Penguins traveled to Bridgeport today to take on the AHL affiliate of the Islanders the Sound Tigers looking to add to the Penguins winning this weekend. In a pregame quote Coach Hynes said “We are looking to put another 60 minute team effort today and continue to get better as a team”
The Penguins would get on the board first with a nice power play goal by Dylan Reese giving the Pens the ever sought after first blood on the game.
Sound Tigers would score even strength goal about two minutes later making it a 1-1 game. Both sides would get some great chances throughout the first period but the score remained the same 1-1.
Second period was a great period for the WBS Penguins especially Paul Thompson, just eight minutes into the second Thompson scored the Penguins second goal making it 2-1 WBS then 4:41 seconds later Thompson scores again on a nice give and go pass from Gibbons putting the Pens up by 2 and putting Thompson on HTA.
Jeff Zatkoff really holding the line for the Penguins today even a naked 3 on 2 coming in on Zatkoff but he held them out. Just as the second period was about to end in comes Paul Thompson scoring his fourth of the weekend and his third of the game and the period making it a natural Hat Trick and giving the Penguins a three point lead heading for the dressing room.
Bridgeport came out for the third period looking to even things up with still a lot of hockey time left, catching WBS on a bad shift the Sound Tigers put one past Zatkoff at just 1:59 of the third making a two point game now 4-2 Penguins.
Brian Gibbons would get a nice pass from Jeff Zatkoff cuasing a breakaway Gibbons would fire up the jets streak in all alone beating the Sound Tigers D man and score the Penguins fifth goal of the game just about slamming the door on the Sound Tigers hopes.
Brandon DeFazio and Reese would do a dance but just draw 2 and 2 each not really a fight refs called roughing. Bridgeport would score again in the final seconds of the game but the Pens would pull out the win 5-3.
