The Penguins traveled to Manchester tonight to take on the Monarch’s looking for the third wing on the young season.
The first period would give the Penguins a few chances even a power play but nothing would seen to help them out. The Pens would give up three power plays to the Monarch’s but the WBS Penalty Kill wold keep things even at zero.
It wouldn’t be until the second frame that the scoring began, it would be WBS getting on the board first as Eric Tangradi would tally one on the power play giving the Penguins a start. Then almost 5 minutes later Andy Andreoff would sit for the Monarch’s giving the Penguins another power play chance, and WBS would convert once again that would be 2 for 3 on the power plays to this point in the game, Dylan Reese would get the Pens second goal his first of the season.
Later the Pens would get another chance on the power play as Andrew Bodnarchuk would take a tripping penalty and sit for two. The Pens would not convert this time but would leave the ice for the second time leading the Monarch’s two to nothing looking toward the final period of play.
Brian Strait would take a hooking penalty early in the third period giving the Monarch’s a chance to make this a one point game but the WBS PK would hold off yet another power play making it 5 for 5 so far this game. With 11:25 left in regulation the Monarch’s would take a penalty as Bodnarchuk would sit for interference giving the WBS power play unit yet another chance tonight look at a 2 for 6 conversion ratio so far.\

Manchester pulls Slava Voynov with just over a minute to play and with just :41 to go Paul Thompson gets a nice back hand empty net goal making it 3-0 Penguins.
This would be the first shutout of the season and the first shutout for Jeff Zatkoff stopping 33 for 33 shots.
