It was another scoreless first period for the Penguins this makes it 3 out of the last 4 games that the Pens have gone a period with no score and have held the other team to no score as well. The Penguins would take a late penalty
Ryan Craig would get called for
interference and the kill would spill into the second period.
Pens would kill what was left of the penalty from the first period, PK looking good again. Nick Petersen gets a rebound goal to put the Pens on the board first making it 1-0 penguins just past the three minute mark of the second period. The Pirates would even things up a few minutes later, and they weren’t done there. The Pirates Beaudoin put one on net that rebounded out to Ryan Duncan who put it into the Penguins net that was wide open putting Portland up by one.
The Pens would catch some luck as Portland took a bench minor too many men putting the Pens on the power play. Geoff Walker would get the tally for the Pens putting the biscuit past Justin Pogge to even it up at two.
Ben Street would draw two penalties as he came in from the neutral zone getting hooked twice putting the Pens on a full 2 minute 5 on 3 power play. Bryan Lerg would get a perfect pass to score putting the Pens up by one again in this game.
Simon Despres would take a holding penalty putting the Pens down a man and giving the Pirates a chance to even things up, and that they would, a deflected shot from the point would beat Scott Munroe making it 3 all.
This game wasn’t finished here fans Brian Strait gets the Penguins 4th goal of the game from the blue line a nice slap shot on a delayed penalty call putting his team up by one again. Portland would pull all the stops in an attempt to get back into this game but it wasn’t in the cards, as they went on a late power play they would pull Justin Pogge for the 6th attacker, Alexandre Picard would clear the puck off the glass and it would end up in the empty net giving the Pens a short handed empty net goal to make it 5-3
