Pens Beat Devils

The WBS Penguins took on the Albany Devils last night in a game some thought wasn’t going to end the way it did. I didn’t get to see the game last night was out of town for family but listened to the game on the net. Also sorry for the late recap as we have been having trouble with our server lot of down time this last month hoping to get that rectified soon.

Anyway a short write up about last night, the game started out not looking so good for the boys as they didn’t have a shot on net just over 6 minutes in, it actually wasn’t until a little over eight minutes in until the Pens lit the lamp Alex Grant through one on net from about the blue line and it kind of deflected into the net giving the Pens a one to nothing lead.

The Penguins went on the power play just after the goal and thought they netted the second of the night but it was waived off much to the crowds dissagreement good old RYS, (that’s ref you suck chant if you didn’t know). Joey Mormina would fire one from the blue line still on the power play and Gimmie, Gimmie Gibbons (one for you old timers) would deflect it in making it 2-0 Penguins.

Mormina on a hot night would get his second point of the night with a nice wrist shot goal making it 3-0 Penguins just two and a half minutes before the horn of the first

The second frame was not kind to the WBS Penguins it seemed the lost all the momentum they had built up in the first period, not able to score on any of the power plays this period and starting to look like another oh not again game at the Mohegan Arena. Albany would score twice in the frame pulling within one point of the Pens and not giving the home crowd a good feeling.

The third period the Penguins came out looking ok but just not sure of themselves at first, giving the Devils a power play when they really didn’t or couoldn’t afford it, but the Pens PK held. Thiessen doing a great job in net keeping his team in the game keeping out the save of the game at one point to keep the Pens ahead 3-2.

Geoff Walker would put a puck on net that would deflect out to Bryan Lerg, Lerg would stuff the puck past Jeff Frazee to give the Pens a 2 point lead again. After the Devil’s pull the goalie Bryan Lerg would score again putting the icing on the cake and making it 5-2 Penguins.

Great home win after coming off an even SWEETER home win against the Bears on Friday.
